Just had to share...

For the past month or so i have been craving & thinking about this rich chocolate fudge type bar that i used to make with my mom as a kid.  And no, i'm not pregnant!  It had just been such a long time since i had tasted it and i remembered it being so delicious.  The problem is that i thought it was in a cookbook that is sitting in my mom's old recipe drawer back in Manitoba.  I don't know why i didn't just call my dad a month ago already and ask him to search through the book, silly me.  Why make myself wait until i can hardly take it anymore?  So this afternoon, knowing that my dad was not at home, i started texting all the Toba friends that i thought might have this cookbook or know where to get it (their moms).  Turns out that my good friend Pam happened to be going to her parent's place in a few minutes and her mom literally has every local recipe collection cookbook ever made?  I really don't know but she has a lot!  I thought for sure that i knew which recipe book this deliciousness came from and sent Pam on a wild goose chase for "chocolate fudge", "chocolate candy bar", "chocolate bar", "fudgie fudge fudge" and everything else i could think of that it might be called in the "Elmwood School Cookbook".  She did find a recipe in this sworn book but when she said what the ingredients were and the cooking procedure, i wasn't convinced it was "the one".  But i figured that i would give it a try and see if my taste buds would tell me the truth.  I know this is seeming like a long story for a recipe post and it probably is.  So i'll cut to the chase.  Turns out the beloved "Rich Chocolate Candy" recipe that i had been coveting was sitting under my nose the whole time.  I had written off the one Mennonite recipe book that i do actually own for possessing this recipe.  Turns out "The Mennonite Treasury of Recipes" held MY treasure!  I am publicly apologizing to Pam for sending her on this goose chase.  She is an incredible friend for sure!
So without further ado...I hope that you enjoy this smooth, rich, chocolately goodness.

Rich Chocolate Candy

2 cups icing sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 cup butter, melted
1tsp vanilla

Mix dry ingredients.  Add butter and vanilla, stir.  Pour into 8x8 square pan and cool.  Cut in squares.

A shout out to Mrs. Margaret Loepp from Niverville, Manitoba for submitting this little gem for the cookbook.

You know it was no problem at all!! The funniest part was what you didn't have the pleasure of hearing.

My Mom: What recipe is she looking for?

Me: She isn't sure of the title. It is fudge or chocolate candy or chocolate bar that has no flour and is not baked that she made with her mom from an old cookbook. She thinks the Elmwood one. (this is paraphrased for your sanity)

My Mom: Oh...is it the recipe I have from Karen in my recipe binder?

Me: No, she was pretty sure it was the Elmwood school cookbook.

5-10 min pass as I am still looking through old cookbooks

My Mom: I have a really good recipe in this binder from Karen, are you sure this isn't it?

Me: Mom, she said she made this as a kid with her mom. From a cookbook. I don't think they had a copy of your recipe binder.

My mom was a little sheepish after that.
But if you need another good recipe like this one, my mom apparently has one. :)
(In her defense she was making supper...with me in the way...and Hailey showing her every toy she was playing with.)

But glad you found your recipe and I hope is was as good as you remember!!
